Currently on Bring a Trailer, this absolutely stunning 1966 Lotus 23B.
This 1966 Lotus 23C is said to be the last of six 23C chassis built at the end of the 23 platform’s production and is said to have been delivered new to Lotus Southwest in Texas before being purchased by its first owner in Denver, Colorado.
Power is provided by a 1.6-liter Cosworth-Lotus twin-cam inline-four that features twin Weber carburetors and dry-sump lubrication. Additional equipment includes a five-speed Hewland manual transaxle, disc brakes with dual master cylinders, coilover suspension, staggered-width 13” six-lug magnesium wheels measuring 10” in width at the rear, and a six-point harness. This Lotus 23C is now offered with a spare pair of seats upholstered in red, exhaust components, MSD electronic ignition components, invoices dating back to 2005, and a bill of sale.
Produced between 1962 and 1966, the Type 23 sports racer was designed by Colin Chapman and featured Frank Costin-styled fiberglass bodywork wrapped over a steel tubular spaceframe with brazed joints that was revised for the 23B variant with structural fortification. The 23C was the evolution’s final platform and rode on wider, six-lug wheels that were shared with Lotus formula racers and accommodated by flared fenders without rear spats.
Six-stud hubs were distinct to the 23C variant, and this example’s six-spoke magnesium wheels were crack tested and chromate coated in 2010. Avon tires measure 7.0/20.0-13 up front and 10.0/22.0-13 at the rear. Stopping is handled by disc brakes with actuation via dual master cylinders that were replaced during race preparation in December 2025.
