Porsche 912

Image
Revisiting 2015 issue 13 of  Hayburner with Stefan Rossi's Porsche 912 photographed by Dan Du Cros. I'd completely forgotten about this car. I subscribed to Hayburner for years, the content was always pretty much inline with builds and cars I admired. This Porsche 912 ticked many boxes, still does. #hayburner #hayburnermagazine #aircooled #porsche #porsche912 #912 #patina

Death on Hog's Back

Image
On January 22nd, 1959 , aged just 29, and 3 months after becoming World Champion, , Mike Hawthorn "lost control" of his Jaguar on Hog's Back (the A3 near Guildford) and died. It was a road he knew very well, in a car he knew very well that he'd raced on many occasions, his modified Jaguar Mk1 VDU811. Jean Howarth, his fiancĂ© at the time, believed he blacked out prior to losing control, having been racing with team owner Rob Walker driving his Mercedes 300SL. Hawthorn was very poorly at the time, having already lost a kidney, and previously blacking out. #mikehawthorn #worldformulaonechampion #f1champion #hogsback #jaguarmk1 #vdu811 #Jaguar #robwalker #mercedes300sl

1968 Porsche 908 Works 'Short-Tail' Coupe

Image
Just because..... what a stunning car. The car, chassis 908-010, was one of two 908s that Porsche entered in the Prototype 3000 class of the 1968 1000 Kilometers of Spa. Vic Elford and Jochen Neerpasch had the honour of driving it, with Elford handling qualifying and putting the car on the second row of the grid. Motor Sport Retro  "Elford took the first stint, handing the car to Neerpasch at the mid point of the race. The race was heavily affected by rain, and the combination of slick surface and near-zero visibility made for treacherous conditions. Neerpasch fell victim to these as he was finding his feet at the beginning of his stint, having a lose that saw him connect with a telegraph pole. He was knocked unconscious, but was otherwise OK. The same could not be said for 908-010. Having suffered some significant damage, the car was sent back to Porsche, disassembled and put into storage. The body and chassis were later sold, and so the car remained for some years" #porsch...

1972 Datsun 1200

Image
Photographed by me in 2018, from memory,  this Datsun 1200 was raced at Mallory by the vendor who had the car listed for sale at £25000 after importing it from France. If you fancy building your own,  Car and Classic  have a lovely looking 1200 for sale. My images are not the best quality, they've been compressed a few times and then downloaded, although I do still have the originals. (somewhere)

Nissan Heritage Collection

Image
Nissan Heritage Collection  not open to the general public for many years, situated within a Nissan engine plant at Zama, Kanagawa displays 300 Datsun and Nissan models from their heritage collection numbering nearly 500. It's often said that when you work within the automotive trade you will always have a close affection for the first manufacturer you work for, I do, I joined a Nissan dealer in 1987, that lead to a life long interest in their back catologue.  I'll get to Japan one day, visiting the Heritage Centre will be near the top of my must visit list. #nissan #nismo #nissanheritage #nissanheritagecollection #datsun
