ASA 1000 GT

Image
The ASA was born out of a need to generate some income for Ferrari, and with Enzo Ferrari, Giotto Bizzarrini, Gioacchino Colombo, and Giorgetto Giugiaro of Bertone having input, its predicted annual sales of 3000 to 5000 cars should have been achievable. The Houtkamp Collection  sold this stunning "Ferrarina" to a fortunate American client, following the majority of period sales to the states, although they went through Luigi Chinetti's dealership. Autocostruzioni SpA of Milan took on manufacture of this 'Ferrarina' or 'little Ferrari' in 1962. It was in fact Ferrari at Maranello who had as early as 1958 produced the twin overhead-camshaft 4-cylinder power unit used by ASA, originally displacing just 850cc. In 1961 the engine was installed in a chassis designed by Giotto Bizzarrini himself the prime design engineer involved with Ferrari's legendary 250 GTO programme and the result was in effect a scaled-down GTO, suitably bodied by Carrozzeria Berton...

1932 Wolseley Swallows Hornet Sports

Image
In the early 1930s Wolseley occupied the front rank of British sports cars alongside MG, Riley and Frazer Nash. The single model responsible was the Wolseley Hornet. Introduced in 1930, the Hornet saloon deployed Wolseley's overhead-camshaft, six-cylinder engine in a lengthened Morris Minor chassis equipped with hydraulic brakes. Its power-to-weight ratio was exemplary among contemporary 1.3-litre cars, the smooth and flexible six pulling from walking pace to more than 60mph. Increased performance was offered by the Hornet Special chassis, which came with 12" brakes and remote-control gearshift. The Special used the shortened engine equipped with twin-carburettors and an oil cooler, in which form it produced 45bhp, good enough for a top speed, depending on coachwork, of around 75mph. The Special chassis rapidly became that of choice for the multitude of independent coachbuilders already using the Hornet as the basis for a sporting two-seater. Sold in the aid of the Animal Resc...

53 VW Zwitter by Rs Skunkwerks

Image
Flat Over Crest - A Film by  RsSkunkwerks Watch and enjoy this hard as nails '53 VW Zwitter sending it around the Walters Arena in Wales. Powered by ultra rare period Denzel race engine, this work of art has been racing since 1954 and wears the scars to show it.  Dirt, dust and dents - all evidence of an excellent day of testing.

The Hillman Imp Family - this weeks obsession.

Image
After my little  Fiat 500  obsession, I found myself looking towards all things rear engined, but paused here, at the Imp Family, and for an obsessively long period of time. I even dipped back into some older photos I took of Imps running up  Prescott .  In my early 20's I was a Mini man, owning two Clubman bodied car's, one a 1275GT, but, I had friends who owned Imps. Rivals in the showroom and on the race track, the Imp and the Mini Have enjoyed cult like status for many years. I didn't understand the family hierarchy, Imp, Chamois or Stiletto (I've no real interest in the Husky) ...... kthinking at first that all the raked rear screened CoupĂ© were Stilleto's.  ........[([there are plenty of Imps for me to point my Camera at. A great blank canvas for modifying - someone dropped a Honda Goldwing bike engine in the one above. Adrian Flux Cult Classics  published and easy read potted history. The Imp Family have a bit of success in competition. If anyone is ...
