Nissan Skyline RS Turbo R30

Image
The sixth-generation Skyline, the R30 model, was released in 1981. It gained popularity with the introduction of the FJ20 4-cylinder, 4-valve DOHC engine in the 2000RS series, complementing the existing 2000GT Turbo lineup. In February 1983, the Turbo RS was introduced with a turbocharged FJ20 engine, delivering a remarkable 190ps and earning the tagline "The most powerful Skyline in history."  The subsequent facelift in the summer transformed the RS models with a unique grill-less front design, earning it the nickname "Iron Mask." In February of the following year, the Turbo RS was upgraded to the 205ps Turbo Intercooler RS, keeping the model in the spotlight.

Skoda 200 RS

At the beginning of the 1970s, it was recognised in Mladá Boleslav that in the long term it would not be possible to succeed in the demanding rallies against international competition with engines with engines of up to 1,300 cc displacement – such as in the Škoda 120 S Rallye. Soon after, the decision was made to develop a rally car with a correspondingly large displacement. The Škoda 110 R Coupé with the S 720 aluminium engine served as the basis for the implementation of this ambitious project. This had a modern OHC valve control system and was created in the second half of the 1960s for the prototype of the same name. In addition, the designers used the experience gained during the construction of the Škoda 120 S Rallye: the technology of these two vehicles was to be combined in a new model. The first corresponding prototypes were ready to drive as early as 1971 and used the bodies of the S 1000 MB and the S 100 L. For test purposes, the five-speed gearbox from the Tatra 603-2 racin...

Tuner Series - Speedwell Engineering

Image
Speedwell Engineering, synonymous with Mini's, Spridgets, and anything with the BMC A ot B series engines. The 60's, and the market for tuning parts for BMC cars was seemingly huge, specialist tuning companies all had some serious competition. Arden, Downton Engineering, Broadspeed, Yimkin Engineering, not one I recall reading about previously, nor V.W. Derrington, Alexander Engineering or Nerus for that matter and many, many, more. Sould you wish, there's a full list of companies and their conversions via  AR Online . John Sprinzel tells the Speedwell story, published on December 22nd 1996, on the  Speedwell Engineering  website: "Speedwell Performance Conversions began in early 1957 with the regular lunch meetings of three car enthusiasts in the Madeleine Coffee Shop in North London. George Hulbert, Len Adams and I used to chat about all things motorsport over the dish of the day, and though I was the only one who actually competed in races and rallies, George – who ...
