Ford GT40 Lightweight

The auctioneers hammer dropped at $7.86 million on this GT40 at Monterrey in August 2024. Its is one of only 10 factory competition lightweight cars built and was originally purchased by Portuguese driver A.F. Pires. The car was raced extensively from 1970 to 1972 but retained its original body, chassis, engine, and transaxle.

Restored to Concours-quality condition, the GT40 packs a Gurney-Weslake 289-cubic-inch (4.7-liter) small block V8 rated at 440 horsepower and sports a factory-correct Cirrus White finish. 

Built in 1969, chassis number P1080 was among the last GT40s completed by Ford Advanced Vehicles before Ford pulled the plug on the programme. This improved version of the Mk I would include aluminium panels, Stage II ventilated brakes, and anti-surge foam in the fuel tanks.

Its engine has the most special sound. It melts with your heart beat.

Fun fact, this is the most raced GT40 ever by far! I think it participated at least in 30 races during its active carreer. It was raced hard and won a lot! Alongside the P1075 it is thr best documented car of them all. Every service and major service job is registered.
It is a miracle how it survived, a fairytaile history for sure, but it really is true one!

Fun fact: this is the most raced ever GT40, BY FAR! It participated in at least 30 races. It also did Hillclimbs and street circuits. It was raced really hard and won a lot(as intended) but somehow it retained all the most vital parts original to this day.
Really a fairytale story, and a true one, as it is the nest documented GT40 alongside the P1075, with every location and major service registered in every year of its existance.
