Goodwood #83 Members Meeting - S.F. Edge Trophy
S.F. Edge, whose full name is Selwyn Francis Edge, was a prominent British businessman and racing driver born on March 29, 1868, in Concord, New South Wales, Australia. He is best known for his significant contributions to the British automotive industry and motor racing. Edge was involved in various motorsport events, including winning the Gordon Bennett Cup in 1902 and setting a 24-hour driving record at Brooklands in 1907. He played a crucial role in the early development of the British car industry and was instrumental in promoting motor vehicles in Britain. Edge passed away on February 12, 1940, in Eastbourne, Sussex, England.
There's a comprehensive article on Goodwood Road and Racing Website "The Name Behind The Race", too quote "It has become one of the most popular races of the entire Goodwood Motorsport season. It’s hardly surprising; there are few more spectacular sights than a field of Edwardian leviathans engaging in hectic motorsport battle, as they would’ve done more than 100 years ago"
"Officially, it’s a two-part, five-lap race for Edwardian cars, GN Specials and cars in the spirit of the early Brooklands races prior to 1923, a recreation of some of the earliest examples of organised motorsport events held here in the UK and overseas"
