Goodwood #83 Members Meeting - The Hailwood and Sheene Trophies

It took a few laps after bogging down at the start, but young BSB talent "Lord" Storm Stacey eventually took a comfortable win in Saturday's motorcycle race, earning The Hailwood Trophy for two stroke entrants on a Yamaha TZ350H with the second placed bike, the Nourish Weslake of Dutchman Jeffrey Vermeulen, taking the Sheene Trophy for the four stroke machines.

  There was a terrific turn out of Fulvia's at Prescott Italia, certainly the best represented of the classic cars if not overall. They're not all HF models, in fact, it looked a good mix of the various series and models produced although I'm no expert on all the subtleties and differences.

1937 Fiat Topolino, but no longer how it left the factory.

  I wish I'd paid a little more attention to this little Topolino. I walked past it several times, I even peered through the roof, took a quick photo of the interior and wondered away thinking the little dials looked pretty cute. In fact I paid very little attention until it pulled out of Pardon Hairpin, and, it really, really pulled out of that corner, closely followed by the strong smell of castor oil. Lunch break beckoned after the run and the car and Driver were lined up waiting to park up at Ettores for a photo shoot..... Leaning through the roof I asked the lady behind the wheel what was under the bonnet. A 2.0ltr Twin Cam on bike carburetors, which I presume was the venerable Fiat Lampredi, and she confirmed it running on castor oil. Sadly I was on my way out of Prescott and wasn't able to get any more photographs. Ramirez Maserati, Subic Bay, Philippines

It was the dashboard mounted VIN plate that really caught my eye, that and the vivid blue hue. 480XWD, showing manufactured in 1959 and is a Maserati 450S recreation, a high-quality, road-registered tribute to the 1957 Maserati 450S racing car. Its registered as a Ramirez 450 MAS REP (I wonder if the owner is aware the registration plate displayed on the rear of the car is incorrect?) and is named after Pocholo Ramirez, a legendary Filipino racing driver. The engine is a 4.9 litre Maserati quadcam V8 fed via 4 downdraft twin choke 45 DCNF carburetors feeding its (substantial) power to the rear differential via a Maserati transaxle 6 speed  (5000GT sourced?) A truly stunning car.........

THE Race that bettered Catalunya 2009.

Upstaging the greatest living Motorcycle racer was going to take something special. Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo on the last lap of the Catalunya MotoGP "was" regarded as the final lap of the greatest MotoGP by many, probably the greatest televised race. Kyle Ryde and Tommy Bridewell at the final round of BSB, Brands Hatch 2024, the winner would be crowned champion. This is only the final few minutes, they'd been at it all weekend. There had to be a winner.

Austin 7 "The Pea Green Special"

  Currently listed on Car and Classic  by vendors Historic Competition Services , The Pea Green Special (PGS) is an Austin 7 based pre war racing “special,” designed as a tribute to classic ERA style competition cars. Built with the help of Vintage Cars, it combines accurate period inspired proportions with extremely detailed craftsmanship, using traditional style fasteners and fabrication methods while still benefiting from modern methods where useful. The original plan was for a naturally aspirated custom V8 concept based on Austin 7 components, but this never progressed beyond drawings. Instead, the car was built with a supercharged Austin 7 engine using a replica Cozette sliding vane supercharger, lubricated by mixing oil into the fuel. Cooling is largely traditional in layout, though the aluminium cored radiator is a small deviation from strict period authenticity.
